A teacher at Chiswick School has been dismissed following allegations of inappropriate contact with a teenage pupil, prompting the school to reassure families about its safeguarding procedures.

The female staff member, described by parents as well-liked and well-known within the school community, was removed from her post with immediate effect after a boy in his early teens reported receiving messages of a sexual nature.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the pupil approached another member of staff to disclose the contact and showed them messages he had received. Senior leaders examined the boy’s phone and escalated the matter immediately, launching a formal internal investigation. The teacher was dismissed earlier this week.

Headteacher Laura Ellener wrote to parents of the school’s 1,200 pupils to inform them that an allegation had been dealt with “with the utmost care and seriousness”.

In her letter, she said: “We have followed all required procedures and made the necessary referrals. As a result, the member of staff has left the school with immediate effect.”

Although the teacher was not named, the incident has quickly become widely known among pupils and families. Ms Ellener acknowledged the circulation of rumours and urged the school community to act responsibly.

“I am very conscious that there is some rumour and misinformation circulating,” she wrote. “Our students should be praised for the mature and respectful way in which they are dealing with this. I would ask all families to reiterate to young people the importance of not engaging in gossip, speculation, or sharing unverified information.”

She added that she would not be able to comment further due to the nature of the case, but emphasised that safeguarding remains the school’s highest priority.

Ms Ellener said staff “remain fully committed to ensuring that Chiswick School continues to uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, professionalism and care for every child.”
