Passengers will need to use Grove Park Bridge to get to opposite platform May 21, 2025 Users of train services face a lengthy diversion by foot if they find themselves on the wrong side of the tracks at Chiswick Station. Network Rail has announced that it intends to carry out work on the footbridge that links the two platforms at the station. The footbridge will be closed from Saturday 2 August to Monday 15 September. During this time, it will be necessary to use Grove Park Bridge to cross to the other platform, a distance of around 400 metres. Work on the footbridge at Chiswick station is expected begin in mid-July including the installation of new steel work, removal of the temporary scaffold support, water-jetting and re-painting. Network Rail says this will end the need to regularly do maintenance work on the building. However, none of this work is to enable full step free access at the station. A Network Rail spokesperson said, “Network Rail will be undertaking essential engineering work on Chiswick station footbridge starting in July. “To ensure these works are completed efficiently, Network Rail will be closing the station footbridge from August 2nd to September 15th. A footpath diversion will be in place, requiring residents to use Grove Park Bridge to safely cross the railway. “While these engineering works will not see any accessibility enhancements at this time, Network Rail remains committed to exploring step-free options such as ramps or lifts if demand and funding make it practical to do so. “We are sorry for the inconvenience this closure will cause and thank residents for their patience while we carry out these essential works.” At the same time as the footbridge is closed there will be service interruptions at Chiswick due to more work taking place on Barnes Bridge. The line between Barnes and Hounslow will subject to closures for eight days between 23 to 31 August. On Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August buses will replace trains between Barnes and Feltham via Hounslow. Then from Monday 25 to Friday 29 August buses replace trains between Barnes and Kew Bridge only. Trains will run to and from Kew Bridge to Feltham. On Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August buses will replace trains between Barnes and Feltham via Hounslow again.
