Chiswick Homefields councillor John Todd reports back
May 6, 2025 Hounslow Council Planning Meeting - Hounslow House The Planning Committee papers for 1 May were 196 pages long. We get 7 days to read them and if necessary visit the site in question. A further paper is published on the day of hearing to rectify errors or material changes. 1 BURLINGTON LANE The proposed development of a 10 storey housing block at Burlington Lane attracted much comment. The developer has already obtained permission for a smaller development and been refused a bigger tower - endorsed on appeal. Historic England opposes the current outstanding planning application as does our Conservation officer. LBH planning officers recommend approval. For reasons that are not clear officers advised some 3 hours before the start of the planning meeting that the matter was withdrawn or being deferred. I ‘d spent many hours reading up and collating valued submissions. Frustrating. AINTREE COTTAGE An application for the conversion of the housekeeper’s Aintree Cottage on Watchfield Court was contested by a number of long term residents who sought compatibility with the architectural site at construction and compliance with specified Crittall style windows. An earlier planning application and appeal failed for non-compatibility reasons. Local councillors Biddolph and Mushiso spoke in support of those seeking change. Officer advised, without mention in the committee papers that this is a self-build project, a matter that requires greater oversight. This was a material omission which will, we were advised, be addressed by conditions. 1-2 CHISWICK TERRACE An excellent development carefully overseen by our planning colleagues producing a desirable home for up to 84 adults with dementia with a provision for LBH residents. Readily endorsed by the planning committee. Street Markets Chiswick High Road car park site Licence renewal hearing took place at Hounslow House on the 29th. I endorsed the request of Val Bott an accredited local historian that the Chiswick Antiques and Vintage Market cease using the fenced area around the statue of William Hogarth. The Licensing Committee will announce their decision next week. Other markets readily agreed to this request after tenting and other fittings were initially squeezed into this enclosed area. Me I have a poor medical history post reaching my 70 th Birthday. My kidneys failed some time ago so I’m on Haemo dyalisis for 3 hours 3 days a week. I’m plugged into a machine that extracts impurities from my blood. There with 90 other patients at St Charles Centre Kensington. Brilliant NHS nurses ensure my survival. I started on renal dyalisis but it leaked into my lungs requiring a prolonged pumping out session in Hammersmith Hospital. My bad luck continues. My right knee damaged many years ago in a skiing accident is now worn out and I’m restricted using walking sticks. Bone on bone is how others described my condition. I see the look of shock when I’m seen limping around hence this update. Referred to Charing Cross in February with an appointment on the 2.12.25 its now changed to July 25. Can't wait! Commitment undiluted……
