Oxford Road South

After being contacted by residents about potholes along Oxford Road South in Chiswick, I visited residents in the area and submitted several reports via FixMyStreet, as I had done a couple of years previously. True to form, Hounslow Highways responded promptly and addressed the potholes they assessed as hazardous to the carriageway.

However, it was evident from the repeated emergence of these potholes that a longer-term solution is needed. The current repairs are only temporary, and the road surface shows extensive damage across that stretch; keen to get positive action for residents who felt that their corner of Riverside gets neglected, I also spoke to the Leader of the Council to see whether funding could be secured to repair the carriageway.

I then reached out to Councillor Grewal, Cabinet Member for Roads (among other responsibilities), and invited him to inspect the site. He agreed with my assessment that full resurfacing is required. After a few more conversations I am pleased to confirm that additional funding has now been secured to resurface Oxford Road South. While the existing programme of scheduled resurfacing must be completed first, Hounslow Highways aims to carry out this work in the new year.

Weeding schedule

The use of glyphosate is an emotive subject for residents and whilst the Council is currently testing a number of alternatives to glyphosate, Hounslow Highways has begun its spraying schedule across wards to reduce weed growth for next year, with Chiswick wards scheduled for spraying towards the end of next month. If groups of residents or residents associations would like use of weeding tools and equipment to remove weeds from their streets, and thus avoid spraying, then please send your request to Hounslow Highways using the report it function at www.fms.hounslowhighways.org, equipment will then be delivered to you, and collected again when you have finished. Make sure to then inform Highways that you have cleared whichever areas you have, and they will not be included in the spraying.

Policing

It’s great to see our ward police out and about all over Chiswick, making sure they are proactively deterring crime as well as reacting to resident’s concerns.

The Metropolitan Police have now developed a new free messaging service, to keep you connected to what is happening in your area. Whether its crime updates, safety advice, or news from your local policing team, you’ll get the information that matters to you, when it matters most. Dukes Meadow

On Saturday 5 th of July I have invited the Leader of the Council, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, Andy Slaughter MP, Councillor John Todd, and a number of local residents to my surgery at the St Michael’s Centre, Elmwood Road Chiswick, to discuss the removal of the hedging in Dukes Meadow. We are keen to ensure, that although the damage is already done, both to the wildlife and general environment, that we are all committed to ensuring that firstly, those responsible make good on their commitment to rectify some of the damage, but that moving forward, damage of this magnitude is not able to be inflicted again.

It has been a busy month for most of us at the Council and although the summer is fast upon us, things don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. So, I have chosen to give an update of some of the things I think will resonate most with residents, but of course I am always happy to talk with residents about any issues that concern them.
