The latest official figures for Covid-19 infections show that no positive tests were reported in the Chiswick area in the latest week.

Data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) for the seven days to 14 April has a zero return for all of the districts within the W4 postcode area. The ONS does not report cases if there are less than two infections in a particular area to protect the privacy of individuals.

The release of the figures comes just as many Chiswick shops and hospitality businesses start to cautiously reopen in line with newly relaxed regulations.

A GP based at a Chiswick surgery said, “While this is tremendous news, there is every reason for continued caution and to stick with the government guidelines as they currently stand. The virus remains present in nearby districts and, as restrictions are lifted, there is every chance it will reappear in the Chiswick area so complacency is dangerous.”

Despite the positive data from Chiswick both Hounslow and Ealing boroughs have relatively high infection rates in a London context. Hounslow is second highest in the capital with a rate of 39 cases per 100,000 population with Ealing having a rate of 29.

There was less encouraging news on fatalities with 12 more deaths reported in the W4 postcode area during February to bring the total since the beginning of the pandemic to 61.

On 19 April the daily number of new people tested positive for Covid-19 in London was reported as 378.

The total number of Covid-19 cases identified in London is 716,055 as at 18 April 2021, this compares to 3,836,833 cases for England as a whole

In the most recent week of complete data to 14 April, 2,091 cases were identified in London, a rate of 23 cases per 100,000 population. This compares with 1,937 cases and a rate of 22 for the previous week.

For the same period 15,093 cases were identified in England as a whole, a rate of 27 cases per 100,000 population. This compares with 16,297 cases and a rate of 29 for the previous week.

Up to and including 11 April 2021 3,295,108 people in London had received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 780,607 had received two doses.
