The Coffee Traveller coffee shop in Strand on the Green has been broken into over the festive period.

The cafe on Thames Road, which often has its distinctive van parked outside, was ransacked on Christmas Day. The owners said said in an Instagram post, "Unfortunately we didn't have Santa visit us this year, last night we had instead two people on a motorbike ram raid us!"

The culprits rammed through the glass front window in the premises (formerly Ken Hammond butchers shop).

"We have sustained quite a bit of loss & damage, and currently on our knees... but even though we have been knocked down, we won't be for long....thankfully we believe we are in the best community and ask those that are still around this festive period to lend their hand in keeping your eyes peeled whilst we get back up on our feet."

The cafe is due to be closed until 3 January 2017 for a break.

Shortly afterwards a similar attempt was made to break into the nearby Cascade Hairdressers. Police believe the two incidents are connected.

A Metropolitan police spokesman said, "Detectives are investigating two linked burglaries that took place late on Christmas Day.

"Detectives from Hounslow CID are investigating and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the suspects fleeing from the scene."

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101."
