West Chiswick CPZ goes live

Residents and businesses have one week's grace to get their permits

Residents will have greater access to on-street parking near their homes when the West Chiswick Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) goes live this week (Thursday 17 July).

The scheme aims to improve the environment and general road safety by removing obstructive parking around street corners, increasing driver sight-lines at road junctions and obstructed driveways, and regulating traffic flow.

It will give preferential parking facilities to the residents who live in the area by removing all-day commuter parking.

Booklets explaining the scheme were sent to all properties in in the West Chiswick CPZ a month before the "live"; date, along with application forms for residents' permits. The Council's parking office has already issued a large number of permits, but there may still be some residents or businesses who need to submit their application.

Vehicles not showing a valid permit will receive a warning notice, and local residents and businesses will have up to a week's grace from the "live" date (17 July) to apply for a permit.

The scheme which like others in Chiswick is subject to a higher charge than schemes elsewhere in the borough. The cost of setting up the scheme was met by funds from a trust set up by the developers of Chiswick Business Park to pay for transport improvements in the area. Cllr Ruth Cadbury the executive member of Hounslow Council with responsibility for transport issues recently admitted there was no justification for the higher parking charges that Chiswick residents pay.
