Old Meadonians

Old Meadonians continued their menacing run in to the final phase of their league programme by halting a recent mini recovery by lowly Salvatorians. They won with a crisp four goals, all scored by mid-fielders in the first half at riverside Lands on Saturday.

Taking advantage of the wind they went ahead from a scorching twenty five yard free-kick from skipper Jack Costello on fifteen minutes. Five minutes later Costello’s cross from the right was laid back by sixteen year old Rupert Cope and Kevin Quinn drilled in from the edge of the area.

Shortly after it was Quinn’s turn to score from another free-kick just outside the area and a mazy run and cool finish by Danny Bond put the result beyond doubt just before the interval. Not unnaturally they went off the boil on the restart but still defended well against the resurgent visitors conceding a solitary goal with ten minutes to go.

Meads have been rewarded for their excellence by having no fewer than six players selected to represent the league at Hanwell Town this week.

Team: Sayers, Salanson, Butler, McGuinness, Costello, Kearney, Quinn, Bond, Cope, Fox, Glover, (Rhone).
