Council holding consultation after complaints about current operation
June 15, 2025 Residents and businesses in Strand on the Green have a chance to have their say on parking restrictions in the area. Following a number of complaints about the operation of the current Strand on the Green (SotG) Controlled Parking Zone, lobbying by the Strand on the Green Association and the presentation of a petition with more than 420 signatures calling for change, an informal consultation is being held. This will consider proposals to scale back the existing scheme and introduce match-day-only controls. The current restrictions, which limits parking from 10am to noon and 6pm to 8pm on weekdays plus 2pm to 4pm at weekends, were brought in after Brentford FC’s new stadium opened. Even as they were introduced residents said they preferred less restriction on weekday and targeted match-day controls. Businesses complained that the blanket approach taken by the council would hurt their revenues and local pubs and restaurants have since reported a decline in evening and weekend trade. Under the revised proposals being consulted on weekday controls from 10am to noon would remain. But all other restrictions would apply only on Brentford FC match days. On those days, the CPZ would operate from 6pm to 8pm Monday to Friday and from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm on weekends and public holidays. The consultation covers Geraldine Road, Hearne Road, Meade Close, Oliver Close, Pyrmont Road, Spring Grove, Strand-on-the-Green, Waldeck Road and part of Thames Road. Residents and businesses have until 4 July to submit their views. If you want to submit your views on the revised proposals, there is a short survey on the council’s web site. https://talk.hounslow.gov.uk/strand-on-the-green-cpz-review The results of this survey are expected to be analysed in July and August and, once the final scheme is decided upon a statutory consultation will be held sometime around October and, of progressed the changes will be introduced between December 2025 and February 2026.
