Bid Made to Increase Height of Riverside Block of Flats
18 new units proposed on Claremont Grove near Dukes Meadows
Permission is being sought to increase the building height by two storeys

A proposal to add 18 new flats on top of the existing residential blocks in a development close to Dukes Meadows has been submitted to Hounslow Council.
A application made in the name of BBCC Chiswick FH Ltd wants to add an extra two storeys to the building at 1–18 Claremont Grove. The roof extension, brought forward by BMR Property Group, would sit above the current three-storey buildings on near Edensor Gardens. The new units would comprise of six studio flats and 12 one-bedroom one-person flats
Prior approval is being sought under permitted development rights which would mean that a full planning application would not need to be submitted.
Daylight and transport assessments have been submitted with the application which conclude that the scheme would have no significant impact on neighbours or the surrounding road network.
The transport statement by RGP Consulting Engineers states that the additional 18 units would generate only a small number of extra trips and would not place pressure on the surrounding road network. The site has a Public Transport Accessibility Level (PTAL) of 2, with bus stops on Cavendish Road and Alexandra Avenue within walking distance and Chiswick railway station around 18 minutes away on foot.
The development is proposed to be car-free, in line with London Plan guidance for areas with public transport access. Existing parking spaces on the estate would remain, but no new resident parking is planned. Cycle parking would be provided in a new store to the west of the site.

Kathleen Healy of the Dukes Meadows Trust said she was unaware of the application until we asked her about it. She said that the trust appreciated the need for social housing but hoped that the developer and the Council will engage with it and residents and ensure that the proposals do not damage the amenity or wildlife value of the park. She added, “Access to high quality open space and the chance to see and enjoy wildlife will be important to support the physical and mental wellbeing of the people who will live there.”
