Funds Set Aside for Southfield Road Crossing
Lib Dem councillors claim credit for road safety improvement

This Wednesday’s (16 April) meeting of Ealing Council’s cabinet is set to approve a transport plan which includes funding for a new crossing on Southfield Road.
£40,000 has been budgeted for the new crossing which will be near the junction with St. Alban’s Avenue as part of a broader package of measure which includes road surfacing schemes around the borough.
While celebrating the move, the Liberal Democrat councillors for Southfield ward accused the Labour administration of a ‘decade of dithering’ over the issue.
They say they have been promoting the need for a crossing for over ten years working with local residents through doing speed checks with the local police and drawing attention to the issue in Council meetings.
No date has been given for when the crossing will be installed.
Southfield Councillor Gary Malcolm said: “Liberal Democrats say it is terrific that we have continued to press Ealing Council to take action on helping to reduce the speed of traffic where someone died in the last few years. There are lots of children who cross Southfield Road to get to the Southfield Rec and then to their school, the Ark Byron Primary Academy. Liberal Democrats hope the Council can consult residents and install it as soon as possible to reduce the number of road safety injuries in the future.”
Other measures set to get funding as part of the package are School Streets around Orchard House and Southfield Primary Schools which both have been allocated £19,000.
