Utility company clears site to allow road reopening
October 25, 2025 Cadent Gas confirmed on Friday morning (24 October) that it was to meet its latest deadline for the completion of work on Burlington Lane. It said the work has now been completed and the site was clear by noon. The project, which began in late September, was initially expected to conclude by 9 October but has faced multiple delays due to the discovery of a crack in a gas pipe requiring further intervention. The lane closure on Burlington Lane — northbound from Paxton Road to the Hogarth Roundabout — meant that no vehicles could access the Hogarth Roundabout and only those withing the weight and width restriction could proceed north via the Hogarth Flyover. Two previous dates for completion were missed with Cadent saying that the issues with the pipe revealed themselves to be more severe as work proceeded. The closure has caused significant congestion in Chiswick, particularly affecting eastbound traffic and access to the A4 and Hogarth Flyover. Residents and commuters have expressed frustration over the extended disruption, especially given the lack of clear updates during the delay. Some local businesses near Burlington Lane and the roundabout have reported reduced footfall due to limited access and visibility. It is understood that the temporary lifting of access restrictions on Staveley Road will end as soon as Burlington Lane fully reopens. Residents have express disappointment that, despite the prolonged closure, the opportunity was not taken to resurface the road where it floods regularly due to heavy rain or add in extra drainage.
