Shut next two weekends with diversion down Barrowgate Road
January 14, 2026 Drivers in Chiswick are being warned to expect disruption later this month as part of Sutton Court Road is set to close for essential works by Thames Water. The southbound lane of Sutton Court Road will be shut so engineers can dig up the road to reach a water main opposite Chiswick Methodist Church. The closure affects the stretch between Barrowgate Road and the Great West Road (A4). The works will take place over two weekends:
Although the work is expected to finish within these dates, the legal order will remain in place for up to 18 months in case of delays or follow-up repairs. During the closures, southbound traffic will be diverted via Barrowgate Road and directed onto the eastbound A4 either by the Porsche garage or at the junction with Dukes Avenue. Drivers heading west on the A4 will need to turn around at Hogarth Roundabout. Anyone trying to reach the southern part of Chiswick, including Grove Park, will also need to use Hogarth Roundabout. Hounslow Council has not indicated whether the usual access restrictions on Staveley Road and Hartington Road will be lifted. If the restrictions remain in place, access to Grove Park will be via Hogarth Roundabout and then westbound on the A4 back to Sutton Court Road.
Residents and motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys on both weekends.
