Access restrictions will be suspended during roadworks
January 31, 2026 Part of Burlington Lane in Chiswick is likely to be closed for over a month due to highway works. Hounslow Council has confirmed that the section of road between the junction with Staveley Road and the A316 (Great Chertsey Road) will be shut from 9:30am on Monday 9 February, with the closure expected to last until early or mid-March. Diversion signs will direct traffic down Staveley Road during the closure and the council is suspending the South Chiswick Liveable Neighbourhood restrictions during the duration of the works. The council has described the project as significant highway improvement work involving the carriageway, footway and cycleway. It will involve the replacement of the temporary barrier preventing traffic entering Burlington Lane from the A316 with a permanent structure. In addition, footpaths that run along the side of Chiswick House Gardens and the Chiswick School playing fields will widened. The closure will mean that drivers will not be able to access the A316 from Burlington Lane during the duration. Although the closure is scheduled to run until 6 March, the roadworks register indicates that the end date could extend to 13 March depending on progress which will be largely dictated by the weather. Burlington Lane will also be closed outside Chiswick Station to facilitate crane movements for the reinstatement of the footbridge from 10pm on 6 February to 3am on 9 February.
