Antiques Market Granted Increased Time to Clear Up |

Organisers required to submit management plan after breaches observed
October 22, 2025 The Chiswick Antiques & Vintage Market has been granted a six-month temporary street trading licence following a Licensing Panel hearing held on 15 October. The decision allows the market to continue operating on the second Sunday of each month along Chiswick High Road, with up to 62 stalls and an extended clearance time of 5:30pm. The application, submitted by Jenny Titmuss of Corky Events, sought permission to expand the market to 64 stalls and extend the post-trading clearance period. While the Panel approved the longer clearance time, it declined to reinstate two previously removed pitches at the junctions with Devonshire Road and Annandale Road, citing concerns over public safety and compliance. The market has operated under temporary licences for four years and is popular with traders and visitors. Supporters, including Councillor Gill and several stallholders, argued that the extended clearance time was necessary for safe pack-down, especially for elderly traders and those handling fragile goods. They also highlighted the market’s positive impact on local footfall and business. However, objections were raised by Councillor Joanna Biddolph, who expressed concerns about pedestrian access, pavement obstructions, and the impact on nearby food businesses. The Panel also noted evidence of non-compliance with previous licence conditions, including vehicles parked on pavements and stalls operating outside permitted areas forcing pedestrians to walk on the road. In response, the Panel imposed several conditions aimed at improving oversight and safety. These include maintaining a minimum 1.8-metre unobstructed footpath, prohibiting stalls near the Hogarth statue, confirming a restriction that was put in place this May. The applicant is also required to submit a market management plan within 28 days detailing how compliance and public safety will be ensured. The decision is final and not subject to appeal. The next market is scheduled for Sunday 9 November.
