Chiswick’s oldest restaurant, which closed suddenly at the end of last year, could be set for a quick return.

The Annapurna Indian restaurant was based at 101 Chiswick High Road since 1970 but served its last customer on Sunday 13 December.

There was widespread consternation at the time about the loss of a local institution.

However, some former regular customers now say they have heard that a reopening could be about to happen. The suggestion is that one of the staff of the Annapurna is planning to take on the lease and run the venue along with his daughter possibly changing the name.

The previous owner, Mr Ahmed, hinted at this possibility when we spoke to him about the closure last year saying that someone was looking to take on the site, but no firm plan was in place.

The Annapurna web site does feature an announcement about reopening but, confusingly says this is taking place on ‘Monday 13th and there is no such date in the next few months.

The restaurant premises currently remains empty and there is no sign of activity inside nor any notice of a possible reopening. Using the existing phone and email contact details for the Annapurna we attempted to confirm what plans there were for the site but, as yet, have not received a response.

The owner of the Annapurna has confirmed that the local curry house is to shut having been at the same location at 101 Chiswick High Road since 1970.
