Chiswick store last of six in London to be relaunched before year end October 18, 2025 Marks & Spencer has reconfirmed that its Chiswick High Road store will reopen in December, following a major refurbishment and expansion as part of a £90 million investment across London. The relaunch is one of six new or renewed M&S Food stores opening in the capital in the run-up to Christmas. In a statement issued this Thursday (16 October), the company revealed that the Chiswick store will be the last of the recently launched or upgraded sites to reopen including Covent Garden, Wimbledon, and Temple Fortune, with new foodhalls in Clapham Common and Fulham Broadway also due to open in November. In total, the six launches are expected to create over 200 new jobs. No specific date in December was given for the reopening in Chiswick. The Chiswick branch, which closed in mid-June 2025, is undergoing a significant transformation that includes expansion into neighbouring units formerly occupied by Poundland, Up & Running, and Mint Velvet. The revamped store will feature a fresh market-style foodhall, in-store bakery and coffee counter, and dedicated flower and wine sections—hallmarks of M&S’s new “renewals” format. The company had previously stated that the Chiswick store would reopen before Christmas, with signage on hoardings promising an “autumn” return. In a July update, M&S reiterated its commitment to a December relaunch, aligning with the broader timeline of its London investment programme. The original contract for the fit out of the store was with B.E.T Enabling Ltd and was originally only meant to run until the middle of September. According to a number of local sources, including staff at the store, unanticipated issues including the presence of asbestos has delayed project completion. The project has involved significant structural and design work, including a new heritage-style façade and multiple customer access points.
M&S Retail Director Thinus Keeve said, “We want to be proud of every store we have across the capital and as we reshape for growth, our focus is opening new stores to grow our footprint but also renewing those stores where we can deliver a better shopping experience for our customers. It’s brilliant to have such a strong property pipeline across London in the months ahead.”
