Old Meadonians

Old Meadonians usually treat this Amateur Football Alliance preseason champions cup as a time to experiment and make final adjustments before the serious business of their league and cup commitments start in earnest.

In the past this has been good policy. However at Riverside Lands on Saturday it proved a complete disaster as a mixture of four first teamers, three from the seconds, three under sixteens and four unknown quantities were put to the sword and finally cut to ribbons by a ruthlessly efficient Nottsborough.

The visitors, an amalgam of graduates from Loughborough and Nottingham Universities were comfortably beaten by Meads in the final of the A.F.A. Senior Cup and must have relished this opportunity to reverse roles although the margin of their superiority will have been a surprise.

In the Mead’s goal Kris Sayers had the mortification of picking out of the net a quarter of the total number of goals conceded in the league last season as the hosts, two down at half time leaked an avalanche in the second half.

Team: Sayers, Smith, (Hulmes), Wapshott, Williamson, Cope, Lewis, Brown, Quinn, (Rahman), Ash, (Pearce).
